Writing Prompt

Joshua Escobar

Moving Color Exercise

Select any poem to visualize.

As you read the poem, draw lines and shapes that respond to what’s happening in the poem. Try playing with line weight, pattern, and color. Also try arranging your drawing by line or by stanza.

This is a basic poetry prompt that I developed when finishing up a manuscript. Feeling burnt out I needed a fresh way to think about form. I made drawings, and then turned one of those drawings into a poem. (So this prompt also works backwards ;)). Here's the drawing and the poem. Feel free to show me your work at joshescobar@gmail.com. I would love to see it!
