The New Moon in Libra happens on October 6th, 2021 at 7:05 AM Eastern Time at 13º24’ degrees Libra.
This new moon happens in the second decan of Libra which is Saturn ruled in both triplicity and descending order method. There is a focus on the relational, linkage, and contracts. There are so many planets in the sky currently in air signs so there’s a big focus on communication. This new moon has Mars joining it and the sun at that 13 degrees so there’s something thorny about that. All those planets in libra are being ruled currently by a Venus in Scorpio so Venus in a Mars sign also adds to the thorny vibe. There is a bit of tension with this new moon as it separates from the sun and runs right into Mars and we know that new moons are about new beginnings. It’s important to think of what you can realistically promise and actually follow through with. It’s important to think about who you are teaming up with and how much you can trust and rely on them. Also to let them know how much they can trust and rely on you. Anything that is swept under the carpet during this new moon will later in the month once Mars shifts into Scorpio will start to blow up. Have the uncomfortable conversations now rather than letting them grow larger and larger and burst later on.
There’s something shaky about this new moon and that’s okay if we embrace that double-Saturn decan approach and really check in on our contracts and who we are in contracts with. Saturn exalts in Libra and so there is something about keeping your word and entering this new moon with everything on the table with sincerity and honesty and transparency. This new moon is about staring someone directly in the eyes and doing a pinky promise. If things have not been well in the house where Libra is in your chart, this might be the time where you/things finally reveal and air themselves out. I wish I remembered who said this great quote “Conflict is someone wanting to deepen a relationship with you.” Approach agreements with care so those agreements can provide reassurance rather than feel like uncomfortable burdens. Susan Chang says about this card sometimes being about “expirations and endings” and I’m thinking of Lauren Berlant (R.I.P) saying “A relation of cruel optimism exists when something you desire is actually an obstacle to your flourishing.” Again new moons are about beginnings so how can we make sure we get off to the best start possible even if it means feeling a bit uncomfortable at first?
Eunice Odio (October 18, 1919–March 23, 1974) is one of the most important writers in my life. She’s a mystic Costa Rican poet who lived most of her life in self-exile away from her homeland. She was known for her fiery witty, quick piercing opinions (hello Mercury in its joy in Scorpio hovering right above her Scorpio ascendant and in mutual reception to her Mars in Virgo in the 11th house) and I remember Jerome Rothenberg saying in a blog post that “Octavio Paz once told her that she was ‘of that line of poets who invent their own mythology, like Blake, like St.-John Perse, like Ezra Pound; and they are rubbed out because no one understands them until years or even centuries after their death'” She’s a deep inspiration to me.
I always feel myself striving for her level of freedom on the page, the not caring about being easily digestible and labeled.I love her letters to Salvadoran poet Claudia Lars about speaking to spirits.
