Irene Nelson is a painter, photographer, printmaker and ceramicist based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Not many people know that she writes poems—abstract painting and poetry are kin.
In her work which includes paintings, photo etchings and monoprints, Nelson conveys the inquisitiveness, sense of adventure and promise of something better ahead that has defined her life. Nelson’s zesty color palette and pared down shapes tumbling confidently through an easeful space combine to create a dynamic, hopeful environment. Nelson’s recent ceramic work has begun an exploration of her shapes in three dimensional form.
