Paul Auster is a novelist, essayist, translator, and poet whose complex mystery novels are often concerned with the search for identity and personal meaning. In addition White Spaces: Selected Poems and Early Prose, forthcoming with New Directions, Auster is the best-selling author of 4 3 2 1, Winter Journal, The Red Notebook, and the three novels known as The New York Trilogy: City of Glass, Ghosts, and The Locked Room, as well as numerous other novels, nonfiction works, and screenplays. A graduate of Columbia University, he currently lives in Brooklyn, New York.
