The Poetry Project continues to closely follow information and developments around COVID-19. Given the contagion of the virus and the close proximity of our particular space, we are suspending all indoor in-person events indefinitely until we have a clearer sense of safety and public gathering.
We will be offering a range of virtual programming, as well as a limited number of outdoor in-person events in Fall 2020. For all outdoor gatherings, we will be following (and exceeding) recommendations laid out by NY State. We will continue to carefully monitor public health context in NYC, and attendees should expect that any in-person events may be canceled or postponed should conditions change.
We feel a deep commitment to the poets, performers, and artists who have given extensive time to share their work, and will be continuing to pay affected poets, artists, technicians, and event staff. We also know The Project is an important gathering space for many. We are grateful to stay connected through our publications, virtual programming, and outdoor, socially distanced events.
We know many of our peers at other organizations and venues share this commitment to their communities, and experience the related pressure of relying to some extent on sustaining their work through events. We hope that writers, readers, audiences, and partners will join us in finding new ways of supporting and engaging with one another during this time.
