In early December 2020, Poetry Project's Laura Henriksen and Nicole Wallace joined poets, artists, and organizers Marcella Durand, Emily Johnson, Eileen Myles, and Jasmin Sanchez for a very cold afternoon walk at East River Park in support of the community's fight to save the beloved gathering site from being demolished as a part of NYC's current East Side Coastal Resiliency (ESCR) Project plan.
The video, shot and edited by Lix Z, combines poetry, readings, and a tour of the park, along with a conversation between the participants around legacies of environmental racism and community resilience. In an effort to raise awareness about the crucial work being done to protect a place where humans, trees, birds, and more currently thrive, we invite you to join us in learning more about how you might help support the efforts to save East River Park.
