Rena Anakwe

Rena, a lighter-skinned, Black woman with long, tiny twists in her hair, is pictured in front of a window with a partial view of a window pane on a bright day. She wears thick strapped tank top in a maroon color. She is wearing a thin gold chain around her neck and gold hoop earrings. On her arm closest to the camera, is a silhouetted view of a tattoo.

Rena Anakwe is an interdisciplinary artist, performer, poet and healer using sound, visuals, and scent to explore where and how traditional healing practices, spirituality, and performance can connect and fracture. Her deeper inquiry is how reconnecting to nature can help us to understand and mend these fractures, not only for ourselves but also in relation to one another. Based in Brooklyn, by way of Nigeria and Canada, she is a NEW INC Year 12 Incubator 2025–2026 cohort member in the Extended Realities Track building SENSORHEUM; an online platform, portal and community, connecting people to healing experiences, in person and online. Under the moniker ‘A Space for Sound’, Anakwe has released albums through label and collective PTP and RVNG Intl'. She is a resident of the Deep Listening series, ‘Planetarium’, co-founded by Justin Carter & Eamon Harkin.
