Swapna Halder is a multidisciplinary visual artist from west Bengal. Currently working as a full-time practicing artist in Santiniketan. She has done her master’s in visual art from kala Bhavan, Santiniketan, and her bachelor’s from The Indian College of arts and Draftsman ship. Swapna’s practice is more multifaceted and perpetually evolving. In her work the myriad small events—unseen deaths of tiny creatures, the demise of birds, small burning grasslands, charred unmade trees —all evoke a sense of sorrow, questions these seemingly insignificant occurrences like the corporality and presence, identity, and the body as well as environment and nature which affects her inner consciousness. To find these issues she goes back to her childhood memories, looking for self and identity, and the symbolic oppression of the society. while conducting image research, she relies on psychological analysis of self, and identity, philosophical aspects like abjection and the powers of horror. She uses contrasting mediums to evoke discrete emotion, which varies from using painting, film, photography, stop motion animation, and poetry
