Litmus Press 25th Anniversary Celebration & Benefit
The Poetry Project is turning 60! Since its first event on September 22, 1966, with Paul Blackburn, the Parish Hall has been home to thousands of readings, performances, concerts, etc. Faithful to the restless and wondrous energy of its beginnings, The Poetry Project—an institution led by poets for poets—continues its programming of readings, workshops, and publications, while remaining fiercely committed to the friendship and sociality of the poem. “What I admire about the Poetry Project is that it still works,” Eileen Myles wrote in 1986, for the Project’s 20th anniversary. Forty years later, The Poetry Project “still works” because of all those—past, present, and future—who, moved by belief and necessity, have invested time and labor in making it a place where artistic spirit and social practice remain in a tight, luxuriant, and ever-evolving conversation. “We’re not the only show in town, but we’re the only show like this,” Eileen adds. Join them, alongside Brandon López and Benjamin Krusling for the launch of this landmark anniversary season.
This event will take place in the Sanctuary at St Mark's Church. There will be a pre-reading celebratory reception in the Parish Hall at 7.30pm. Doors to the Sanctuary will open at 8:30pm and the event will begin shortly thereafter.
This event will also be livestreamed for free on The Poetry Project's YouTube channel.
