Boo: Ghosts and the Unconscious for Utopian Dreaming with Claire Donato & Adrian Shirk

What can the outer realms instruct us about what’s to come? How can the departed, the astral, the ancestral, the dream, the fantasy, the ghost be worked with as co-creators in imagining utopia(s)? How can we work with these influences as artists, writers, activists? In order to come up with a beautiful solution, you have to be dreaming of it already. How is that possible?! Can we assume postures of receptivity, even if we don’t know exactly what we’re set to receive? Ghosts are sent to us to help us understand a gap in the world or an absence. Does the absence need be filled in, or is it a space from which we love? A ghost story is a love story. We’ll consider the Log Lady. A packet of recommended reading will be sent out before the class. All you need to bring is yourself, something to write with/on, Halloween candy, an open heart, and a dream journal from the previous week (or longer, if you’ve already been keeping one). Boo.

Enthusiastic readers and followers of Donato's and Shirk's work are encouraged to purchase their books. We suggest purchasing Shirk's And Your Daughters Shall Prophesy through our friends at Bookshop, which raises money for local bookstores. We suggest purchasing Donato's Burial from our friends at SPD, or directly from the publisher, Tarpaulin Sky.
