The mutual constitutions of speech, document, memory, and image conspire and unravel in the work of Rosmarie Waldrop and Wendy Xu. Xu’s newest work, The Past, forges lyric from and against historiographies of family and displacement. In The Nick of Time, Waldrop casts light and attention into flickering permutations of thought, remembering, ardor, study. Elemental curiosity, scrutiny, and devotion ring through the work of these two poets, into terrains of vanishing and expanse.
