ART

Maryam A. Ansari

Artist statement: As someone who moved around all my life, home is nebulous but I’m always seeking it and arriving most certainly when I make something. My work is created from an impulse to make invisible things visible, whether it be a fleeting look or the fault lines of power. These days I’m most inspired by houseplants of all kinds, pushing buds out to the surface while their roots grow furiously in the dark soil. I see my art similarly, as the flora that appears from the hard inner work of settling more and more into myself, my gaze, my roots and my hearing.
