The Poetry Project

Guide to Today

Vincent Katz

Today is pursing its lips
Throwing up its hands
In disgust or delight
Or throwing the towel

In someone’s face, one
Who until now wasn’t
One who was spoken of
Discreetly, mimicking

Overt mockery, positions,
And the correct move
Seduces witnesses fain
To persist, and resist too
