This Dis/Course meeting begins with an assertion: space is intra-action. We will study Karen Barad’s theory of agential realism to discuss possibilities inherent in refiguring the erotic. We will address (queer) longing and belonging, physical notions of diffraction and aberration, theories of coloniality and decolonial vision. What shifts when desire is understood as social-material matter? How might writing provoke thinking around the ways identities are formed and disformed in space(s)? We will practice a balance of writing, conversation and listening.
We may spend time with some of the following material: On Touching: the Inhuman That Therefore I Am, Karen Barad; Dear Science and Other Stories, Katherine McKittrick; Writing in Space 1973-2019, Lorraine O’Grady; My Meteorite, Harry Dodge; Sweet Land (opera), The Industry.
