Workshop
Poetry Meets Performance; Five-Session Workshop with Maya Martinez
"I regret any appearance of an 'in-crowd' behind the October Newsletter,” Tim Dlugos wrote in 1984, reassuring an unhappy Seymour Krim that the Poetry Project wasn’t “in business to scratch backs.” But when the poem itches, should a friend keep her hands to herself? In this workshop, we’ll repress our fantasies of objectivity and read reviews where the critic was a friend to the poet, literally or figuratively. Readings will include reviews from the Newsletter’s archives alongside other essays and poems that respond critically to a writer’s peers. We might find that intimacy makes for better readers.
