Reading and Writing Through Alice Notley’s Early Works; Five-Session Workshop with Hoa Nguyen
Celebrating the legacy of Alice Notley as part of The Poetry Project’s 60th anniversary season, this five-week generative workshop offers a saturational study of Notley’s early poetry. Using the collection Early Works (Fonograf Editions), we will examine her first four out-of-print books alongside sonnets and uncollected poems from the 1970s downtown scene. Sessions combine close reading, group discussion, in-class writing, and prompts designed to birth new work during and outside of our meeting time. This is a space for generative immersion, conversation, experimentation, and invention. Each meeting ends with a beginning: a proposal for furthering work generated throughout the course.
