Tomorrow's Realm: Sun Ra, Poetry, and Song with Angels & Demons (Darius Jones and Amirtha Kidambi) and Harmony Holiday

Longtime collaborators Amirtha Kidambi (voice) and Darius Jones (alto saxophone) join forces to materialize “Angels & Demons,” a series of musical settings of cosmological writings and poems by iconic improviser and bandleader Sun Ra, and Harmony Holiday joins to offer writing and archival transmissions that also draw from Ra’s poems and verbal performances.

This is tentatively planned as a live indoor event at St. Mark's Church. We are following guidelines laid out by the CDC and the State of New York. These include: limiting the number of attendees; requiring proof of vaccination be shown at the door upon arrival; and requiring and providing face masks, as well as hand sanitizer stations. Before each event, we will also be conducting rapid tests for all performers and event staff. Attendees are required to register in advance, and contact information is collected at the point of registration in the event that we need to support any public health efforts around contact tracing. We are committed to the safety of our performers, audience, and event staff, and will be fully prepared to update any of these plans and protocols as circumstances continue to evolve. We are grateful to attendees for helping us maintain safety within our present public health context, and look forward to holding meaningful shared listening space together.

Please arrive prepared to show proof of vaccination and a photo ID at the door. Proof of vaccination may be in the form of your vaccination card (or a picture of your card), the NYC Covid Safe app, or the Excelsior app. If, for medical reasons, you have not been vaccinated, you may instead bring documentation of a negative PCR test taken within the last 72 hours.

A Note on Accessibility

The Poetry Project is committed to making our event programming inclusive and accessible, and are continuously working to improve and expand upon accessibility measures. Please call The Poetry Project at 212-674-0910 or email us at rm@poetryproject.org in advance of events to arrange accessibility.

The Poetry Project will arrange for an ASL interpreter for any event with one week's advance notice.

The Parish Hall is wheelchair accessible via the 10th street entrance. Please note that attendees will need to maneuver underneath scaffolding on the Church Grounds to access the Parish Hall. The narrowest path made by the scaffolding measures 35".

Accessible all gender bathrooms will be available in the sanctuary beginning at 9pm. Unfortunately, for this event, the accessible bathrroms will not be available before 9 pm, due to a conflicting performance in the sanctuary by another organization.

To access the sanctuary bathroom attendees will need to go through 2 sets of double doors and two single doors. The smallest of these doors at the end of the corridor is 28.5 inches wide.

If you have a question about anything please contact us at rm@poetryproject.org.
