Bob Holman + Frank Rubino
For the third consecutive year, The Poetry Project will host an evening devoted to mining the conceptual and practical resonances between poetry and psychoanalysis. The previous two events in the series have paired a psychoanalytic clinician who works in or around poetry with a poet or writer who works in or around psychoanalysis (in 2024, Nuar Alsadir read alongside Claire Donato and 2025 featured Jamieson Webster and Hannah Zeavin). This year, the evening follows this structure and yet strays slightly from the field of poetry towards more interdisciplinary concerns about performance, language, and corporeality. Avgi Saketopoulou, a leading psychoanalytic clinician, theorist, and author of Sexuality Beyond Consent: Risk, Race, and Traumatophilia, will read new work alongside a performance and reading from the interdisciplinary choreographer and theorist Anh Vo, accompanied on the viola by Jessica Pavone. Topics may or may not include: confusion and overwhelm, the unconscious and fainting, the performance of vessel-hood, and the musicality of speech.
This event will also be livestreamed for free on The Poetry Project's YouTube channel.
Tickets for this event have sold out. If you were not able to purchase a ticket we hope you will join us via the free livestream.
