“I need money to buy gloves / so that I never need again to touch it, / money,” writes Sophia Dahlin in the titular poem of her latest collection Glove Money (Nightboat, 2025). It’s a terrific, absurd and thickly gendered thing to say—so much so that it might have been uttered by Anne Instagram, the divorcée heroine of Harron Walker’s Veronica Place (TigerBee, 2026). “Sometimes a woman will sound like a woman,” Walker reminds us, “and sometimes her name will be a building’s name, too.” In satire and pastoral, in intimate lyric and the most normal sentence yet, Walker and Dahlin each steal the reader away on an ultimate road trip to an undisclosed, impossible destination.
