What does a place sound like when seen from above or below, through the inflections of voice—urban or otherwise—, the residual glow of social relations, all mythologies we inherit in order to destroy? In Susana Plotts-Pineda and Matt Longabucco’s poems, place becomes a locus in which to situate a plea, negotiate a rupture, or shape a turn-of-the-century affect. These two poets sound the tonality of the present, offering it to us as blooms of the future, aftermaths of hope.
