Geography of Renewal: A Chant for Water

Jen Hunter Connelly

In this new apartment
I have water
in three directions

I sit in the triangle
made of three sources of water

There is water for bodily nourishment

There is water for bodily cleansing

There is water for soul nourishment
that is also soul cleansing

I have this luxury
of clean running water
I've learned to never
take that for granted

I've learned this luxury is limited
I turn off the tap
to protect it

I stand up & walk past
the stacked up relics of my past -
the contents of a storage room
I haven't had the energy
to situate yet

But the rooms of water
are clean

I call this apartment
Costa Rica

Walk out on the balcony
I live in a rainforest

Do you hear the wind
in the trees?

Or is it the creek?
