I am thinking about this workshop as a life-drawing class with also some primordial soup energy. Together we will explore how poems contour and conjure personage: figures or characters, ourselves or others, people we know and those we don’t, individuals or clusters and communities. Around the shoulders, poems fall as air, as light, as room, as coat, as camera, as pool, as oil, as gauze, as instruction, as interrogation, as prayer. We will find dynamic ways to encounter persons in reading and writing, and we will work towards rich engagements with the pressures that presence presents.
Five in-person sessions will wend the meshes of Name, Body, Space, Relation, and Occupation. Readings will include: Mei-mei Berssenbrugge, CAConrad, John Godfrey, Wayne Koestenbaum, Fred Moten, Eileen Myles, Sawako Nakayasu, Akilah Oliver, Pope.L, Rodrigo Quijano, Lorenzo Thomas, Nora Treatbaby, Simone White, and Lao Yang.
