Deep Study Session

Slow Drags :: Stray Physicalities — Deep-Study Session with Saretta Morgan & Bo Hwang

What movements quiet language? Which movements invite language to arrive? Like ships, or hand-woven vessels, passing and returning in the patient light of inquiry, we approached each other with these two questions. Moved by and thinking with André Lepecki, Ralph Lemon, Donna Harraway, Raquel Gutiérrez, Leanne Betasamosake Simpson and Hortense Spillers, we watched the earth. We played in the mirror. We sent a lot of voice notes.

We invite you to step into this on-going conversation across geographies, one that has taken shape and inspiration from the guerilla ecologies of urban weeds, the smoke & stroke jams of Atlanta’s alternative lounge scene, the methodical handling of horse shit, the faithfulness of small birds at the shoreline, and worlds in between. What “nonglorious” encounters and events order our everyday? What is it to sensually comprehend regulatory acts?

While reflecting on the particular environments (real and imagined) that you hold dear, we’ll explore movements that meet you where you are, physically and otherwise. We’ll consider what vibrations you want to amplify and/or regulate in your individual practice, and develop individual drills that prepare your body to listen, give in to slow time, and receive whatever strays.

This event will also be livestreamed for free on The Poetry Project's YouTube channel.
